PPS Presentation at a Virology Symposium

Malin Bäckström, Director of PPS, participated in a virology symposium held in Smögen in August 2026, where she presented projects carried out within the framework of PPS.

Malin Bäckström provided an overview of the protein production services offered by PPS and highlighted a specific project conducted at the local PPS node in Gothenburg. In this project, non-structural protein 1 (NS1) from the tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus was produced in mammalian cells. The protein thereafter proved to be suitable for use as an antigen in serological diagnostics for TBE.

The project is a collaboration between PPS and Professor Tomas Bergström at the Institute of Biomedicine, Department of Infectious Diseases.
